The Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) is a powerful energy modeling tool with a proven track record. While heralded for accuracy, accessibility and real-time results, PHPP’s user interface can be significantly enhanced for quick and easy iteration, which is critical to project optimization.

By leveraging PHPP’s open-source Excel platform with linked external spreadsheets, the process of project entry, analysis and optimization can be upgraded with easy parameter adjustment, process tracking and recall, sensitivity analysis and communication tools to facilitate an Integrated Design Process (IDP.) These tool and techniques can take Passive House design and optimization to a new realm of accuracy, insight and refinement.

Learning Objectives
1. Awareness of the process and principles of project optimization
2. Insight into the value of easy iteration, process tracking and IDP
3. Knowledge of sensitivity analysis as a guide to project optimization
