Track 6: Passive House @ 10,000 ft: Passive Houses in Extreme Conditions

This presentation overs the design and construction of the 9K Passive house. Built at 10,000 ft the project is uniquely designed without any solar internal gains due to the extreme climate and conditions of the building site. Several innovative passive house design techniques were utilized on the project. Including:
-Earth to air heat exchanger (earth-tube)
-Wooden nails
-Designing in-floor radiant heating system
-Wooden curtain wall
-Soft wood rain screen facade.
-Primary thermal envelope is petroleum free with EPS only used within plumbing pit.
-Elimination of structural header thermal bridging.
-Interior climbing wall
-Re-use of 1860’s slate from the region.
